What is a Purchase Ledger?

In accountancy, a purchase ledger records all the purchases made by your business. It records information such as invoices received, credit notes received and payments sent.

In the good old days before computers took over our lives, the purchase ledger was maintained in book form, hence the term 'ledger', but nowadays it is much more likely to be held on a computer using accounting / bookkeeping software.
